What is TeachShare?

TeachShare is part of the Resike group and provides teachers with access to the UKs largest free source of online links to information supporting the integration of sustainability in schools. The site is entirely focused on promoting a better understanding of education for sustainable development.

TeachShare is the brainchild of Resike Managing Director Tony Millar who whilst working as a student mentor identified the need for support in schools to enable them to become more resource efficient whilst also creating new and exciting learning opportunities linked to sustainability.

Initially the online information hub was developed to provide product instructions and educational resources linked to packs of products which supported Eco Schools topics. This initial Resike concept was piloted over a short period and products were sold using an e-commerce site. It quickly became apparent that the need for information was greater than the need for product supply and resources were focused on creating a series of interlinked, online information and communication portals to provide teachers with that much needed support.

Initial portal development was focused on supporting educational key performance indicators linked to the sustainable elements of Building Schools for the Future projects, but with the scrapping of this initiative, projected plans had to be altered. A change in Government and a difficult financial climate, also led to some significant changes and as a consequence many services are now provided to schools and councils free of charge. These free services are funded by providing schools with an optional upgrade to the TeachShare hub and by providing organisations who wish to supply goods and services to the education sector with a unique route to market.

The TeachShare hub has been maintained as the central meeting point and will always be a free source of information to schools and local authorities. From this hub, teachers can then be linked to other organisations that can provide support linked specifically to education for sustainable development including councils and suppliers of sustainable technologies.

Resike aim to become the driving force behind creating a better understanding of resource efficiency in UK schools and the wider community. An open and honest approach to providing teachers with access to the available information with no political agenda or allegiance to sponsors, TeachShare provides a truly unique resource for teachers.

Is TeachShare Membership Free?

TeachShare is now and will always be a free resource for teachers and access is made available using a simple registration process.

The site is being continually developed by a dedicated team of I.T. and research professionals and at present is funded by sponsorship from both Resike Ltd and a landscape company Millar Landscapes who specialise in environmental installations in schools and also use TeachShare to provide supporting for their installations. It is no coincidence that all three organisations are lead by Tony Millar who for many years has been a passionate supporter of helping teachers to make their schools more sustainable, whilst delivering a clear and positive message to students which can be carried into the future.

Eventually, TeachShare will become self funded by providing a forum where carefully selected companies can advertise their products and services to teachers. These companies will all be relevant to making our schools more sustainable and as always, TeachShare will be used to provide supporting information.

Over one in thirty schools is accessing this fantastic resource and with the continued help and support of 'Eco' educators all over the country we can continue its rapid and successful development.
