Homebase Launch Towcester Eco-School Project
Nicholas Hawksmoor Primary School is taking on the Eco-Schools challenge by taking part in a food growing project with Homebase. Run by Keep Britain Tidy, the Eco-Schools programme aims to promote sustainable development through environmental education.

Schools involved in the project are assigned volunteers from their local Homebase, who will guide them through the process of planning, running and successfully harvesting a vegetable patch for them to enjoy. Schools that successfully grow their own produce provide invaluable knowledge to pupils about the benefits of growing food and can help them gain internationally recognised Eco-Schools awards as well as saving money.

Nicholas Hawksmoor is no stranger to the programme as it was awarded its bronze award in May 2007. But this time it is aiming for its silver award, as head teacher, Richard Edwards, said: We are looking forward to the school being involved with Homebase and the food growing project. We feel that the children will learn much about sustainability and healthy eating. It will also give them a love for gardening that hopefully will stay with them for life.
