Eco Art and Innovative Recycling

Recycling and reusing valuable waste materials can result in the development of fantastic and usable end products. Rather than putting waste materials into landfill, or sourcing virgin materials, the following eco art and innoative recycling ideas have been developed using recycled or reused waste materials.
Thai Temple Built From One Million Recycled Bottles

The Wat Pa Maha Chedio Kaew temple has found a way to bottle-up Nirvana, literally. The temple, which sits in Thailand’s Sisaket province, roughly 370 miles northeast of Bangkok is made of more than a million recycled glass bottles.

Man Made Island Paradise

If you can't afford to buy your own tropical island paradise, why not build your own? That is exactly what Richie Sowa did back in 1998, from over a quarter-million plastic bottles. His Spiral Island, destroyed years later by a hurricane, sported a two-story house, solar oven, self-composting toilet and multiple beaches. Better yet, he has started building another one! His ultimate goal? To build the island bigger and bigger and finally float out to sea, traveling the world from the comfort of his own private paradise.

Sailing across the Pacific in a recycled plastic bottle catamaran

The brainchild of David de Rothschild, The Plastiki Expedition is a daring plan to sail across the Pacific from San Francisco to Sydney, a distance of over 12,000 nautical miles, in a boat made entirely from old plastic bottles and recycled waste products. The boat will be carrying a team of four scientists from the Scripps Research Institute, who will study ocean acidification, marine debris and coral bleaching during the trip.
