05 May 2012 Compost 'check-ups' for nine schools
Staff from Notts County Council are to visit nine schools to see how they are progressing with their compost bins. The visit, next week, will coincide with National Compost Awareness Week.
The council's Schools Waste Action Club expert Lydia Powles will be examining the contents of the compost bins to see how effective they are.
Councillor Richard Butler, cabinet member for environment and sustainability, said: "The compost check-ups are part of an ongoing initiative to raise awareness among school children of the benefits of recycling organic waste into a useful garden product.
"At the same time, this reduces the amount of waste sent to landfill."
