First wind-powered electric vehicle charging station installed
The world's first integrated wind-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging station has been installed in Barcelona.

The charging station combines vertical wind turbines with electric vehicle (EV) charging technology and provides clean energy to power electric vehicles.

Urban Green Energy (UGE) supplied the wind turbines for the project, while GE incorporated its EV charging technology to create the station, called Sanya Skypump.

The system incorporates the energy capacity of a 4K wind turbine with the EV charging capability.

CEO of UGE, Nick Blitterswyk, said: "Since launching the Sanya Skypump, we have received inquiries from companies around the world that are looking to embrace sustainability".

"The Sanya Skypump is one of those rare products that enable institutions to demonstrate their commitment to the environment while providing a really useful service as well."

The two companies consider this a strong step to making EVs more accessible and efficient for drivers.

Charging facilities for EVs have been the subject of debate recently with many in the automotive industry claiming that without the ability to charge the vehicle in public places and at peoples homes, EVs will not become mainstream.

Earlier in the month, car manufacturer Nissan said that encouraging the public to use EVs will require solid infrastructure throughout cities and backing from local authorities.
