Kids are eco warriors
Tidy kids from two Port Glasgow schools joined forces recently to banish rubbish from their community

Pupils from St John's Primary and Lilybank School donned yellow vests, protective gloves and grabbed lots of bin bags as they ventured out on a litter pick.

The children showed their caring side as they tidied up areas in and around their respective schools as well as going out and about in the community.

They served as a sterling example to other young kids across Inverclyde by keeping litter at bay as part of National Spring Clean Week.

The project involved around 50 kids, including St John's P6 pupils and children from Lilybank.

Twelve bags of rubbish were collected by the hard-working kids on their near two-hour litter pick. Special guest Stuart McMillan MSP also joined in to help the kids with their efforts.

St John's Primary have recently secured their silver eco award and are now working towards gaining their green flag status.

The litter pick fitted in well with their green flag ambitions and their studies as well as teaching the kids the importance of looking after the area where they live and play.

P6 class teacher, Gillian Wilkie, said: "The day went really well and this will help the school to gain its green flag.

"Some kids went on a litter pick at St John's playground and around the school while some kids also went to the park at Lilybank.

"They were all happy to help and they all got stuck in."
