Mobile app launched to get Londoners moving
Green behaviour reward scheme Recyclebank has launched a new mobile app to encourage Londoners to walk and cycle more in a bid to reduce pollution and ease congestion.

The re:route app, which has been backed by Transport for London (TfL), aims to incentivise people to reconsider how they travel by offering members points for each journey made on foot or by bike. These can then be redeemed against a range of offers and discounts by Recyclebank partner companies such as Marks & Spencer, Planet Organic and Champneys.

As well as helping to reduce congestion on the roads and public transport in London, the app aims to help users develop a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle. To support this ambition, alongside the point rewards, re:route also alerts people to the number of calories that they have burnt and the amount of C02 they have saved for each journey.

TfL surface transport director of planning Ben Plowden, said, "More people cycling and walking will help to reduce congestion on our roads and on our busy public transport network. An initiative like re:route is a great way to help TfL achieve these goals. We're particularly excited about the potential for this app to motivate people to cycle and walk during the London 2012 Games, when London's roads and public transport network will be at their busiest."

Re:route also enables users to check the number of bikes and spaces available at Barclays Cycle Hire docking stations, connect and sign-in with Facebook and view local weather forecasts.
