French village given chickens to cut food waste
A French village has proposed giving two chickens to each household to cut down on food waste.

Officials from Pince in the northwest of France say the chickens could consume up to 150kg of food waste each year from families, as well as provide eggs for the breakfast table.

So far, 20 households have reportedly already stated an interest in receiving the birds which will be handed out in September.

According to officials, the idea started out as a joke but then turned into a reality. "We realised it was a very good idea," the Mayor of Pince Lydie Pasteau told France 3 TV.

She added that the chickens would be a good investment as the cost of waste disposal would increase in the future, and they would also reinforce community links.
