Waste is the word at green recycling day
A waste recycling roadshow was held in Coalville yesterday to encourage people to stop throwing rubbish into the tip.

A team from Leicestershire Waste Partnership, an organisation which promotes recycling in the county, talked to residents about the need to step up recycling.

Among items on show at Coalville's market hall were discounted compost bins known as Green Johannas, which can take cooked and uncooked food waste as well as garden rubbish.

People were also invited to take part in "spring cleaning" by getting rid of unwanted items of furniture and other household clutter.

Recipe books which encourage people to buy only what they need, rather than wasteful amounts of food, were also available.

Waste management technician Dale Peppitt said: "We've had a lot of people looking at the Green Johannas, having a prod and a poke.

"We're also trying to encourage people to get rid of unwanted items of furniture or other household clutter which can be used by someone else."
