Youngsters raise awareness of climate change initiative
Green youngsters brightened up their school when they dressed in colourful clothes to raise awareness of climate change initiative - Earth Hour

The Burlish Park Primary School pupils also went without lights and electrical appliances for an hour, as part of the initiative.

Other activities at the Windermere Way-based school included tree planting, making Earth Hour lanterns, writing pledges and designing posters and leaflets to promote the World Wildlife Fund campaign, which is encouraging people to switch off their lights for an hour at 8.30pm today.

Lynda Williams, eco schools co-ordinator, said: £This is the fourth year running that we have supported the Earth Hour campaign and our children really enjoyed participating in the activities as well as learning about the impact individuals can have on the environment.

£Many children pledged to do one small thing to make a difference to our world including planting a tree in the garden, recycling rubbish better at home, playing less on computers and playstations, walking to school more and switching to stand by and turning off bedroom lights.

£We would like to ask individuals businesses and communities to support us in Earth Hour by switching off their lights for one hour on Saturday.£
