Eco-fest is back for second year
Schools, community groups and local businesses will join together to celebrate environmental projects in the Don and Dearne.

Local MP Caroline Flint, shadow secretary of state for energy and climate, will open the second annual Dearne Valley Eco-Festival on Friday, March 16.

The event will be held at the newly-opened Kingswood Centre - site of the former Earth Centre in Denaby - and is to celebrate some of the recent successful green initiatives in the area.

Five local schools will provide presentations about their eco-projects and a total of 11 schools will receive their Eco-Schools awards in recognition of the work they have undertaken to reduce their environmental impact.

The programme for the event, which runs from 10am to 4pm, will feature a variety of activities. This includes keynote speakers and presentations, interactive workshops, debates and exhibitions to show people how to get involved in eco-schemes and take action to reduce their carbon footprint.

Home energy assessments will also be available, and free energy efficiency products will be on display to show people how they can save energy and money.

Kingswood Centre Manager Brian Kitson said: Kingswood is delighted to lend its support to a project that shares so many of the same sustainability beliefs and values.

As well as providing an ideal venue in which to host the Eco Festival, we are also keen to continue increasing our involvement with both the local community and neighbouring schools.

Joanne Wehrle, Dearne Valley Eco-Vision Project Manager, said: We hope that local people will come along to find out more about the Eco-Vision and how they can get involved.

Local residents and groups can also take part in discussions to help shape the future of the Dearne Valley, putting forward their suggestions for what communities can do to save energy, money and help address climate change.
