New solar panels light up primary school
The sun will now help to power Staniland Primary and Nursery School following the installation of solar panels

The school, in Peck Avenue, applied for the Government-funded solar energy system about a year ago, as part of its plans to achieve an eco schools status.

The system was supplied free through the Eco-Schools solar programme.

The 9.66 kWp PV system consists of 42 panels. It is expected to generate 9.5 MWh electricity and save the school around five tons of carbon every year.

A special meter is also to be fitted inside the school to enable children and staff to see how much renewable-energy the solar panels are generating.

Head of school Sarah Paul said: We were very pleased to have been successful in our bid to have the solar panels installed at our school."
