School presses ahead with solar project
Eco-friendly schoolchildren in Reading are continuing to call on the community to help them reach their target for Solar Schools despite the Governments decision to cut tarifs.

EP Collier School in York Road, Reading, is already halfway to securing the cash for solar panels to be installed on its roof to reduce emmissons and energy bills.

The campaign, run by environmental organisation 10:10 and supported by the Reading Post, encourages children to raise money by selling virtual solar panels to family, friends and business.

The money raised will be used towards installing solar panels on school roofs in a bid to reduce energy bills and improve the environment by cutting carbon emissions.

The school has already raised 5,685 toward a 10,000 with a donation of 1,000 from Greyfriars Church and New Hope Community Church. Children and staff have also raked in cash from businesses including InstaGroup, HgO Consultancy, Standard Tandoori, The Moderation pub and Living & Learning sponsor Gravity Personnel.

Money has also been raised at a school disco and a curry night with the 1,000 winnings of a Heart Thames Valley radio competition on recycling also being added to the cause.

Four other Reading schools are taking part in the scheme, namely New Christ Church Primary School, Kendrick School, Battle Primary School and New Town Primary School.
