29 September 2011 Scottish school wins Sky Rainforest Rescue challenge Shawhead Primary School in Dumfries and Galloway has won first prize in the Sky Rainforest Rescue Schools Challenge. Their project was on reducing their energy use to help reduce their impact on the rainforest and on the environment. The project was carried out by their 10-strong 'Shawhead Carbon Busters' team. Activities included a school assembly, a poster competition, participation in WWF's Earth Hour, plastic bottle recycling and working out pupils' carbon footprints.
