Pupils have bin busy
Balfron High pupils have been helping to keep the area clean and tidy by taking part in the Cleaner Routes to School campaign.

New litterbins have been installed on Buchanan Street, Cotton Street and Roman Road by Stirling Councils Land Services with a helping hand from Balfron High School pupils.

The new bins line the roads to the school and display the school badge on the bin, giving everyone who uses these routes the opportunity to dispose of their litter properly.

The Land Services team together with staff and pupils from the high school took action as part of their zero tolerance approach to litter, both in the school and the surrounding area.

The school is to be assessed for its third Eco Schools green flag award in November and has focused its efforts in raising awareness of sustainability, use of alternative energy and litter.

Acting headteacher Phil Slavin said: The school is committed to caring for the environment. We cannot allow litter to go unchallenged in our community. We have the potential to develop positive sustainable habits among our young people and we continue to work hard to raise awareness and develop responsibility for our environmental impact.

A Stirling Council land services spokesperson said: Balfron High Schools Eco group should be congratulated for encouraging students to stop littering in the surrounding area. By having the school badge on the new bins it shows that the school is taking responsibility for the issue and in turn taking care of the environment.
