21 July 2011 Crocketts Primary wins 'green' award Pupils at a Smethwick school are celebrating after winning an award for their efforts to keep Sandwell tidy and making their school as 'green' as possible. Crocketts Community Primary School - already well known for its 'green' credentials - has won the Think Before You Throw School Status Award from local environmental charity Tipton Litter Watch.
Under the topics of litter, recycling and sustainability, the school was judged and showed to an extremely high standard awareness and respect for their local environment.
Head teacher Vicki Kavanagh said: "We encourage our pupils to recycle and look after the environment.
"We have many sustainable projects both in school and within our local community.
"We have a gardening club that go around school at break and lunchtimes collect fruit waste for our compost bins and watering our plants.
"Our eco buddies also carry out duties such as recycling, litter audits and litter picking activities."
Crocketts Community School, which opened in 2009, was voted the UK winner of the Department For Education Award for Sustainable Schools in the 2010 Teaching Awards UK. For the full news article and to be taken to the website, click here |
