Recycled nativity scene
A Newcastle cathedral has begun to build a life-size nativity scene made entirely from recycled rubbish

The Cathedral Church of St Nicholas - England’s most northerly cathedral - is using waste items including 1,650 plastic sample bottles, 1,200 plastic bottle tops and three bales of cardboard donated by Northumbrian Water.

The nativity scene will be placed piece by piece at the main entrance of the cathedral during the first week of advent, beginning on Monday December 1. The final element of the nativity, the baby Jesus, will be laid into his recycled crib during Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve.
