'Not enough' wind turbines in the UK
There are not enough onshore wind turbines in the UK and the nation is lagging behind other European countries, RenewableUK has claimed.

It has produced a report, stating that there are just 1.11 wind turbines per 100 square kilometres in the UK, falling to 0.49 turbines when only England is considered.

This, the campaign group claims, dispels the myth made by some commentators that the UK countryside is riddled with wind turbines.

A spokesman for the group told BusinessGreen.com: "There's this huge interest and controversy, but compared with other nations we are far behind."

It found that the UK is falling behind other nations such as Denmark, which has 10.85 turbines per 100 square kilometres and Germany, which has 5.95 turbines.

The report comes as RenewableUK and other green groups launch a new 'Action for Renewables' campaign, calling for greater investment in clean energy and support for the energy sector through the Energy Bill and energy market reforms.
