15 June 2011 Ladybird species are in decline More than a fifth of the UK's ladybird species are in decline. The first atlas mapping the beetles reveals that, of the 47 different species, 10 have been decreasing in the past 20 years.
Experts believe the arrival of new species such as the harlequin ladybird is one of the reasons for decline as well as changes to habitat and the climate.
