Anglesey pupils become top class litter pickers
Pupils from three Anglesey villages have helped do their bit for the environment by clearing rubbish from their communities whilst learning about the importance of recycling.

Pupils from Ysgol Llanbedrgoch, Ysgol Pentraeth and Ysgol Moelfre joined North Wales Police, Keep Wales Tidy and Anglesey County Council Waste Management staff for the clean-up.

During the morning the pupils were given a presentation by Vicky Reid, Waste Promotions Officer at Anglesey County Council, who spoke to the pupils about the importance of recycling and how to reduce the amount of waste that goes into landfill.

Later during the day the pupils, accompanied by Keep Wales Tidy, Tidy Town Project Officer for Anglesey, Gareth Owen and PCSO Iona Beckmann from the Local Policing Team, spent the afternoon collecting litter.

“Anglesey is number one in the recycling league in Wales and it is great that the younger generation are keen to learn about how they can recycle more. Putting just one more item in your recycling box rather than the black bin can make a tremendous difference” said Vicky Reid, Waste Promotions Officer at Anglesey County Council.

Tidy Town Project Officer for Keep Wales Tidy, Gareth Owen said: “On behalf of Keep Wales Tidy I would like to thank the pupils and staff for their efforts in keeping their communities free of litter. It’s wonderful to see youngsters getting really stuck into something they care about. We are extremely grateful for their support.”

PCSO Iona Beckmann from the Local Policing Team said: “Local residents have congratulated the youngsters and the pupils of Ysgol Moelfre were also thanked by the local Community Council for their efforts in helping to keep the village clean and tidy.

“All the children should be extremely proud of themselves. They all worked very hard and they are an example to us all. With their help, hopefully we can encourage people to take pride in where they live and do their bit to help keep it clean and safe.”
