Ealing's youngsters do their bit for the environment
Keen Ealing youngsters have saved 260 tonnes of waste from landfill sites, under the award-winning Schools Recycling scheme.

It is one of the few schemes in the country to collect biodegradable food waste and cardboard.

Since November 2009, pupils have been recycling various materials across 140 schools and colleges, 60 of which are already part of this system.

Cabinet member for Transport and the Environment, Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, said: "I know our young people are some of the keenest recyclers in the borough.

"They care about the planet and want to be green, so it's great to see so many of them getting involved."

Another 20 schools are due to sign up by summer, however Councillor Mahfouz would like to see all Ealing schools involved.

These good habits are also being encouraged at home, as children and parents have the chance to win £20,000 to improve their neighbourhood through the Recycling Rewards scheme.
