21 March 2011 Climate Week 2011 Lands at East Midlands Airport East Midlands AirportEast Midlands Airport is today launching the start of Climate Week 2011, marking the start of a week long National campaign. East Midlands Airport is joining other companies, charities, schools, local councils and other organisations, as part of the UK's first National Climate Change Week, with the aim of inspiring millions of people to combat climate change.
Throughout the week, running from March 21st to March 25th, the airport will be holding roadshows across the site, where colleagues can learn about all aspects of sustainability; including a new sustainability champion scheme. The scheme, launched in March, allows colleagues to get involved in sustainable activities such as volunteering, green travel and environmental initiatives.
A willow tree planting session on the airport's perimeter trail will also be an important part of the week, allowing colleagues to engage with projects that are already underway to help reduce carbon emissions and create renewable fuels.
