16 December 2010 Green Santas go on patrol IF YOU spot a man with a broad face and a round little belly, that shakes when he laughs like a bowl full of jelly - don't assume it's Father Christmas. It could be a special green Santa from Caerphilly County Borough Council helping to spread festive cheer as well as reminders about reducing and recycling.
There will be no changes to normal refuse and recycling collections across the borough during the festive period.
Residents are asked to put out bins on their collection days as normal before 6am.

Also, due to the extra waste generated over the Christmas period, such as wrapping paper and packaging, the council will relax its normal rules and will collect additional bags put out alongside wheelie bins to a maximum of two bags from December 27 to January 7.
Take additional waste to your local household waste recycling centre, which will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
Cabinet member Councillor Lyn Ackerman said: "Caerphilly is one of the greenest local authorities in Wales thanks to the ongoing support of local residents.
"I would urge everyone to do their bit over the festive period to make this the greenest Christmas yet."
The council are advising the community to try to re-use or recycle leftover food. Every year in Wales we throw out 350,000 tonnes of food which rots in landfill sites, releasing the greenhouse gas methane.
Make the most of your leftovers - turkey can go into risotto, curries and salads, and vegetables can be put into soups and stews.

Alternatively any left over food and turkey carcass can be placed in the food waste caddie for composting.
And when Christmas is over, even the tree can be recycled. Real Christmas trees can be collected with your normal weekly green waste collection or taken to any of Caerphilly's six household waste recycling centres where they will be collected for composting.
Trees will need to be cut into one metre lengths.
Christmas wrapping paper and cards can be recycled in the brown bin/recycling box, but no heavily embossed foil cards or paper will be accepted. For the full news article and to be taken to the website, click here |
