08 November 2010 Pumpkins help to boost national grid A week after Halloween, Bedfordshire is recycling hundreds of pumpkins to produce electricity for the national grid. The pumpkins are being collected from households across central Bedfordshire, along with other domestic food waste, and taken to the BiogenGreenfinch Twinwoods anaerobic digestion (AD) plant in Milton Ernest. There they will be processed to produce renewable electricity and fertiliser for local crops.
The pumpkins will join the 42,000 tonnes of waste food processed at the Twinwoods plant each year. The waste can generate enough electricity to power around one thousand homes for a year. For the full news article and to be taken to the website, click here |
