15 August 2010 Holiday recycling for African schools WESTON youngsters are being urged to give African schools a helping hand by recycling their old stationery during the summer holidays. Stationery store Staples are re-launching the Back to School Swapsies campaign following its success last year.
A massive three tons was collected across the country in Staples stores and then redistributed in some of the poorest regions in the continent by UK charity READ International.
Weston Staples' general manager Steven Winton said: "We're hoping even more school children will get involved and bring in their old but good quality pens and pencil cases so they can make a difference to some of the poorest children in the world.
"We think nothing of throwing away our unwanted stationery, but to some children, even having a pencil and a working pen is often a struggle."
The initiative builds on the activity of READ International, which redistributes old text books to African countries.
Children who recycle their unwanted stationery in the Wyvern Centre store will also receive a £1 voucher that can then be used in-store. For the full news article and to be taken to the website, click here |
