23 July 2010 Schools celebrate green win Banwell Primary School TWO schools walked away with eco-friendly tools when they came first and second in a competition. As part of the Grand Pier construction in Weston, developer John Sisk & Son bought a small wind turbine to power the temporary emergency lights along attraction. The equipment was then offered as a prize to North Somerset Council in support of its Eco Schools programme, which guides staff and pupils about sustainability. As part of the competition applications were requested from schools in North Somerset demonstrating how the wind turbine would help them in their Eco-Schools journey. The winners from Mendip Green First School in Worle won the wind turbine and runners-up from Banwell Primary School were given a second prize, of three solar-powered security lights.
