School scoops another top eco award
A WALL Heath primary school has become the first in the borough to gain a second top eco award.

Maidensbridge Primary is again flying the Eco-School's Green Flag in recognition of its environmentally friendly ethos.

The school in Beachcroft Road picked up its first Green Flag two years ago, but it has now become one of only a handful of schools across the country to complete a further series of environmental and conservation projects.

Children have been learning about litter and recycling, how to cut energy consumption and taking on conservation projects to improve the school grounds - including creating a wildlife area and installing a new bike shelter.

They also studied global cultures, healthy eating and have been busy composting and organising a host of environment related activities.

Headteacher Andy Hale said: "I am extremely proud of the massive effort that staff and pupils alike have put into obtaining our second Green Flag.

"If there's one thing you learn from achieving the award it's that environmental and conservation issues are something everyone is responsible for and the information gained was used across the curriculum to enhance the learning experience for all pupils."

School environment and conservation leader, Helen Wildboar, added: ''We have worked very hard to achieve our second Green Flag and are delighted to be flying it over our school."

Eco-Schools is an international award programme that guides schools to learn more about and promote sustainability.
