28 October 2009 Waste Watch to research barriers to recycling in schools The Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) has commissioned Waste Watch to research the barriers to recycling in schools. According to a WRAP study in 2008 of 24 schools, up to 20% of waste was recycled when more than three-quarters could have been recycled each year. Waste Watch will explore the real and perceived barriers to recycling in primary and secondary schools that are offered recycling collections by their local authority or waste contractor. In particular, our research will look at how some schools have managed to become successful recyclers and what other schools and local authorities can learn from their experiences.
