Essential Reading

Education for Sustainable Development and the sustainable schools agenda generally will almost certainly influence some of the biggest changes to the education system in recent years. Getting up to date information from organizations like the Department for Education and OFSTED will provide teachers with support and guidance ensuring that they are familiar will the latest directives.

The Essential Reading section keeps you up to date with information supporting sustainable schools from organizations including  OFSTED, DEFRA, The Department for Education, The Sustainable Development Commission, The Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) and many more.

When important reports are published they are normally submitted on the organizations website with the assumption that readers such as teachers will find the reports. After speaking to teachers about this, it is clear that they do not have time to follow the vast amount of information that is made available, so often miss reports that contain very useful information.
The TeachShare system ensures that you are notified of new reports soon after they are published.

Essential reading documentation will be listed within this section keeping you up to date with issues and topics such as:

  • Sustainable Schools, Sustainable Development and National Framework for Sustainable Schools
  • Carbon reduction commitment and carbon management strategies
  • Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC)
  • Climate change
  • Engaging with biodiversity
  • Healthy schools
  • Energy saving

Below is an example report from Ofsted which is just one of a list of reports which discusses ways in which sustainable development can be improved within schools.
